A strong immune system is a requirement for a long and healthy life.

Unfortunately, there are numerous environmental factors - such as toxins, radiation and pollutants - that can attack the immune system and make us ill.

We typically spend 90 per cent of our time indoors. There we are surrounded by an invisible cocktail of molecules: walls, floors and furniture release gases into the air, chemical substances escape into the air when we cook or clean and, depending on the environment, pollutants from outside enter the inside. In addition, we ourselves constantly release various molecules into the environment when we breathe and through our skin".[1]

As early as in 1990, the WHO recognised: "...both the direct potho/ogical effects of chemicals, radiation and certain bio/ogical organisms, and the (often indirect) effects of physical, psychosocial and aesthetic factors such as housing, urban development, land-use planning and transport on health and well-being.“[2]

Today, medical science is aware of various syndromes that can arise due to a pathogenic building environment (sick building syndrome), due to too many ingested chemical pollutants (multiple chemical syndrome), due to the infrasound emitted by wind turbines (wind turbine syndrome) or due to electromagnetic radiation (electromagnetic hypersensitivity). It is estimated that more than 20% of the world's population suffers from one of these syndromes.

Aside on Electrosensitivity:

In environmental medicine, electrosensitivity is defined as "the development of health problems caused by exposure to electromagnetic fields."[3] The symptoms are often of an unclear nature, such as headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, loss of performance, fatigue, dizziness, etc. According to the WHO, electrosensitivity is not recognised as a disease in its own right because there are no clear diagnostic criteria. In practice, however, many cases are known in which the symptom-causing electromagnetic fields have already occurred below the internationally defined threshold values. It should be noted that all living beings are electrosensitive. The cells of living systems communicate on the basis of electrophysiological processes. And so science also knows that pulsed high-frequency electromagnetic fields in particular can have considerable health effects, especially if there is already some underlying disease. [4] It has been proven that the human biosystem reacts to this cocktail of high-frequency waves (WLAN, 5G, Bluetooth) and low-frequency currents (household electricity) and can, in the worst case, react to them with syndromes such as cancer. Shielding measures such as room shields or Faraday bed systems, such as those developed by Ernst Schwarzhans, are all the more important. Impurities of the indoor air

are divided into gaseous anorganic (e.g. radon) and organic substances (e.g. vvoc) as well as biological contaminants (e.g. MVOC). They are also divided into particulate anorganic (e.g. particulate matter) and organic substances (e.g. plasticisers) and biological contaminants (e.g. moulds). Some of the more importnant pollutants in the context of the living and working environment will be discussed in more detail below. These include fine dust, house dust mites, fungi, radon and air pollution.

Fine dust:

In 2017, the Federal Environment Agency in Germany stated: "It has been proven that the inhalation of fine dust has a negative effect on human health."[5] Fine dust can come from vehicle traffic, industry and power plants as well as from smoking, do-it-yourselfers, candles, household appliances and other sources of dust. Fine dust pollution is usually higher indoors than in the outside air, because the dilution in indoor spaces is lower. Fine dust is differentiated by particle size and their chemical composition. The smaller the particles and the more metals and organic components they can contain, the more dangerous they are to health, as they can travel deeply into the respiratory tract and pass into the bloodstream. Allergic asthma and COPD are often the consequences. In 2005, the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB) published a study in which it was found that the limit value of 50 micrograms of fine dust per cubic metre of air in indoor rooms was complied with to a significantly higher degree with short-pile carpeting (30.4 μg/m') than with smooth floors (62.9 μg/m').[6I An absolute argument in favor of new rugs and carpets in bedrooms, workplaces and living rooms. House dust mites:

More than 10% of the population in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (the DACH region) are allergic to the excrement of the house dust mite. These are found primarily in mattresses, duvets, pillows and carpets. Especially if the rooms are warm and humid or if people sweat a lot in bed. Therefore, you should always provide for enough air and wash the relevant textiles regularly.[7] The house dust mite (dermotophogoides pteronyssinus) is about 0.3 millimetres small. It is not found at altitudes above 1,500 m, but in areas with up to 70% humidity and its favourite food, skin flakes. For mite allergy sufferers, a foam mattress with anti-allergenic properties is therefore more recommended than one made of natural materials.[8]

Fungi:

There are over 100,000 species of fungi, which can be roughly divided into moulds (hyphomycetes), yeasts {candida) and skin fungi (dermatophytes). Most fungi are necessary for humans and nature; however, there are some yeasts and moulds that are considered pathogenic in the living and sleeping environment. Fungi can be found on the ground, in outdoor air and in indoor air everywhere. If the immune system is intact, they are well tolerated by humans. However, in immunocompromised persons they can lead to serious impairments, such as mycoses and allergies. They are mainly found in a living environment with poor indoor conditions and humidity and hygiene problems, i.e. often in beds or behind barriers. Mould spores can also be found in house dust. If you suffer from mould in your house, dehumidify the rooms as soon as possible and carefully remove all mould stains. For support, building biologists and experts for mould abatement can be useful and necessary.[9]

Solutions:

Radon:

It is a naturally occurring, radioactive noble gas with the atomic number 86. It is odorless, tasteless and colorless. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland (the DACH region), there are some areas in which, due to the geological properties, articularly much radon occurs. The Federal Office for Radiation Protection in Germany or the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology can provide more information on this. Radon can enter the house unnoticed through the basement, windows, and doors, and, in the case of high concentrations (> 200 Bq/m') lead to high radiation exposure and possible damage including lung cancer. Noise:

One of the main problems of our time is sound pollution, especially in urban areas. The main cause is traffic noise. It has been shown that sound pollution can cause stress and in the long run make people ill. According to § I of the Federal Immission Control Act (BlmSchG), people must be protected from harmful sound immissions [12] More than 20 % of people in industrialised countries are ill with sound pollution. According to studies, chronic exposure to noise increases the risk of heart attacks by 30 %.[13] Especially during sleep, the body needs rest. From 35 decibels upwards (measuring.unit for sound = dB) stress hormones are released; as little as 30 dB can disturb sleep.14] The use of a noise-reducing rug under the bed makes sense. Power lines:

The permanent presence of low-frequency electric fields, such as those generated by household mains electricity, may have an effect on health; they are considered to be environmental pollution. Magnetic alternating fields are generated as a result of flowing alternating current, i.e. everywhere in the house or in high-voltage power lines, transformers and railway power lines where current is actively flowing. Electric alternating fields are generated as a result of alternating voltages in laptops and household appliances that are connected to the power grid. So-called creeping currents, which can occur when currents are no longer discharged through the power lines due to incorrect earthing, but through water pipes or the ground, can cause significant stress in the body. Photovoltaics:

These systems generate electricity from sunlight by producing direct current. This is less harmful to health. The same applies to the direct magnetic field generated. However, the electricity produced must be converted into alternating current by an inverter and then transmitted to the house's alternating current lines. At this point - especially if the construction is faulty - considerable electrical and magnetic alternating fields can occur with their known effects on health. For this reason, attention must be paid to the proper earthing of PV systems, sufficient distance from living spaces, shielded cables and pipes, and a small number of conductor loops.[15]

The Diagnosis:Radio platform describes high-frequency electromagnetic fields, which also include WLAN, Bluetooth and 5G, as environmental pollution. Low-frequency pulsed high-frequency radiation and modulated technical radiation are harmful to the environment. The frequencies of mobile phone radiation are artificially generated fields that have nothing to do with the naturally existing electrical and magnetic fields that humans have known for millions of years and that are necessary for the most diverse life functions. Living beings have not been able to adapt evolutionarily to the massive increase in artificial radiation in such a short period of time, which means that exposure to it can have frightening health consequences.
